Running With Your Dog
Summer is coming! The weather is getting warmer, so why not have your best friend as a running partner?
Running is an excellent way to exercise for both you and your dog. A dog without exercising can, sometimes, develop depression or behavioral problems.
Some breeds like Labrador Retriviers, Doberman Pinchers and Pit Bulls are great runners. Some others, like Bulldogs, can have respiratory problems if exercising too hard. So, if you are not sure if your dog would make a god running partner, ask your vet. It is important to make sure that your dog is healthy enough to be your running partner.
Once you know your dog is healthy, start by walking for 10 to 15 minutes twice a day. Dogs, like us, need an appropriate training program. Slowly, increase their time, running for 2 minutes and walking for 5 minutes. Add speed and distance by 10% each weeek. If you notice that your dog stars lagging, slow down. They may need to rest for a couple of days, so make a schedule that is appropriate for him.
Try to run early in the morning, or later in the evening, to avoid the heat.Remember to bring water with you and offer to him on a regular basis.
So grab the leash and head out the door with your best friend!

Here is Arizona it gets pretty darn hot. I think running with your pet is great for both parties but I do recommend you take care of your dog and provide him with some booties. The hot pavement in this state and really burn and we love our pets too much for that. Dogs need exercise as well and I think it’s a great idea!
